The Dreame D-series covers two fundamentally different platform generations, plus a newer CE variant on the premium platform. The D20 PlusD20 Plus and D20 Pro PlusD20 Pro Plus are mid-tier self-emptying robots combining a 13,000 Pa motor with a HyperStream DuoBrush dual-roller main brush, a flat drag mop pad, and a sealed auto-empty dock. The D20 UltraD20 Ultra and D30 UltraD30 Ultra represent a later generation built around a floating rubber roller main brush, twin rotating oscillating mop discs that lift clear of carpet automatically, and an auto-wash dock that cleans the mop discs after every run. The D30 Ultra CED30 Ultra CE extends that premium platform with the same 25,000 Pa suction tier as the D30 Ultra. These are not minor feature variations; they are separate maintenance paradigms. Why D-series robots need more frequent maintenance

Two distinct floor-cleaning architectures share the D-series name

The mid-tier D20 PlusD20 Plus, D20 Pro PlusD20 Pro Plus, RLD35GDRLD35GD, and RLD43SDRLD43SD use a HyperStream DuoBrush: two counter-rotating rollers with a central divider channel that catches long hair before it can wrap into a single mass. Mopping is handled by a removable flat microfibre pad dragged passively behind the robot, fed from a 350 ml water tank with 32 selectable moisture levels. There is no dock wash system on this tier; every mop service requires the owner to remove and hand-wash the pad. The premium D20 UltraD20 Ultra, D30 UltraD30 Ultra, D30 Ultra CED30 Ultra CE, RLD31SERLD31SE, and RTD31TERTD31TE replace the DuoBrush with a floating rubber roller and swap the flat pad for twin rotating oscillating mop discs that lift off carpet automatically and are cleaned by the dock after each session. Understanding which platform a given model belongs to is the necessary first step before scheduling any service.

Passive mop pads on the mid-tier platform degrade silently

The flat drag pad used by the D20 PlusD20 Plus and D20 Pro PlusD20 Pro Plus has no self-cleaning mechanism. Within the first few minutes of a mopping session, the microfibre surface loads with fine particulate and grease picked up from the floor. From that point forward, the pad redistributes material rather than lifting it. A pad left in the mop compartment overnight while still damp compounds the problem by developing odour that transfers to hard floor surfaces on the next run. Neither robot issues an alert when pad hygiene has declined, so the service interval must be self-imposed: wash after every session and replace on a calendar basis regardless of visible wear.

Dock wash systems on Ultra models introduce their own maintenance obligations

The D20 UltraD20 Ultra, D30 UltraD30 Ultra, D30 Ultra CED30 Ultra CE, RLD31SERLD31SE, and RTD31TERTD31TE route the rotating mop discs through an auto-wash cycle at the dock after each run, which largely eliminates the daily pad-wash obligation for the owner. That automation introduces a different requirement: the dock’s clean water tank and dirty water tray both need emptying and rinsing on a schedule proportional to use. A dirty water tray left full between sessions breeds bacteria in a warm room within two to three days, and the resulting contamination transfers back onto the mop discs during the next wash cycle. Keeping the dock tanks clean is as important as keeping the mop discs themselves clean on this platform.

Auto-empty dock bags fill faster than the indicator suggests in busy households

The sealed auto-empty dock bag is shared across both D-series generations. The rated 150-day bag life assumes a low-shed household running light daily sessions. In homes with pets, long-haired occupants, or regular carpet vacuuming, the practical cadence for the D20 PlusD20 Plus, D20 Pro PlusD20 Pro Plus, D20 UltraD20 Ultra, D30 UltraD30 Ultra, and D30 Ultra CED30 Ultra CE is six to eight weeks. A bag approaching capacity restricts airflow through the auto-empty transfer port, causing the dock cycle to stall mid-transfer and leaving the robot’s internal dustbin partially full at the start of the next session. The robot’s cleaning performance then degrades progressively, and the root cause is frequently misdiagnosed as a suction fault rather than a bag replacement issue.

Mid-tier flat-mop platform

The D20 PlusD20 Plus, D20 Pro PlusD20 Pro Plus, RLD35GDRLD35GD, and RLD43SDRLD43SD form the mid-tier branch of the D-series. All four share the same 13,000 Pa Vormax-class motor, HyperStream DuoBrush dual-roller main brush, 500 ml internal dustbin, flat mop compartment with a 350 ml water tank, and sealed 5 litre auto-empty dock. The RLD35GD is the regional SKU equivalent of the D20 Plus; the RLD43SD corresponds to the D20 Pro Plus. Consumables are fully interchangeable within this group: main brush, HEPA filter, mop pad, side brush, and dock dustbag replacement intervals are identical across all four models.

Premium rotating-mop platform

The D20 UltraD20 Ultra, D30 UltraD30 Ultra, RLD31SERLD31SE, RTD31TERTD31TE, and D30 Ultra CED30 Ultra CE represent the premium branch of the D-series. These models use a floating rubber roller main brush, twin rotating mop discs that oscillate against hard floors and lift clear of carpet automatically, and an auto-wash dock that cleans the mop discs after each run using a water rinse cycle. Suction differs within this branch: the D20 Ultra and RLD31SE run at 13,000 Pa, while the D30 Ultra, RTD31TE, and D30 Ultra CE step up to 25,000 Pa. The D30 Ultra, RTD31TE, and D30 Ultra CE also add a hot-air drying stage to the dock wash cycle. Core consumable intervals are shared across the group, though dock maintenance cadence differs slightly between the rinse-only and rinse-plus-dry dock variants.

Replacement parts and service intervals

Main brush roll

On the mid-tier platform, the HyperStream DuoBrush used by the D20 PlusD20 Plus, D20 Pro PlusD20 Pro Plus, RLD35GDRLD35GD, and RLD43SDRLD43SD has two counter-rotating rubber rollers with a central divider channel that intercepts long hair before it can wrap into a single mass. Clean every one to two weeks by removing both rollers, cutting any wrapped hair along the length of each roll, clearing the divider channel fully with a toothpick, and wiping the end cap bearing holes on both sets of caps. A roller that does not spin freely by hand after cleaning indicates wrap inside the bearing housing; extract it before reinstalling. The divider channel is the part most often skipped and is the single most common cause of brush stall errors on this platform. Replace the DuoBrush assembly every six to nine months under daily residential use. On the premium platform, the floating rubber roller used by the D20 UltraD20 Ultra, D30 UltraD30 Ultra, D30 Ultra CED30 Ultra CE, RLD31SERLD31SE, and RTD31TERTD31TE self-adjusts to floor-height variation and has no divider channel, but it still accumulates hair wrap along its full length and at both end cap channels. Clean on the same fortnightly schedule, pulling the roller clear of the housing and removing all wrap before inspecting the end caps. Replace every six to twelve months depending on floor type and session frequency; carpet-heavy homes should target six to eight months.

HEPA filter

The filter maintenance schedule is consistent across both D-series platform generations. Tap all four sides of the filter frame over a waste bin every one to two weeks to remove surface loading. Wash under cold running water once a month, then air dry for at least 24 hours before reinstalling; a filter placed back while still damp causes the motor to draw more current as it compensates for restricted airflow, which accelerates wear. Under daily use, replace every three to four months on the D20 PlusD20 Plus and RLD35GDRLD35GD. On the D20 Pro PlusD20 Pro Plus and RLD43SDRLD43SD, the carpet boost function raises the motor’s effective duty cycle on rugs, shortening the replacement interval by roughly a month in carpet-heavy homes. None of the four mid-tier models has an individual filter listed on its own yet, so each name above links through to its maintenance set, which includes the filter as one of its parts. For the D20 UltraD20 Ultra, D30 UltraD30 Ultra, RLD31SERLD31SE, and RTD31TERTD31TE, plan for replacement every three to five months under daily use, and each of these four has the filter available as a single item. The D30 Ultra CE shares the same 25,000 Pa premium platform and the same three-to-five month filter interval, but it does not yet have either an individual filter listing or a full maintenance set listed separately in the catalogue; owners of this variant should follow the D30 Ultra filter interval above until a dedicated listing is added. The visual indicator across all D-series models is a colour shift from factory white to mid-grey; any darker than mid-grey and the filter is past its service life.

Mop system

The flat drag mop pad used by the D20 PlusD20 Plus, D20 Pro PlusD20 Pro Plus, RLD35GDRLD35GD, and RLD43SDRLD43SD requires a hand-wash after every cleaning session. There is no dock wash function on these models, so maintaining pad hygiene is entirely the owner’s responsibility. A pad that feels stiff after washing or shows visible fibre flattening across its contact surface no longer absorbs moisture evenly; replace every six to eight weeks under daily mopping or every ten to twelve weeks at three to four sessions per week. Always allow the pad to dry fully before the next session; a damp pad reinstalled into the mop compartment develops odour within a few days and redistributes soiling rather than lifting it. The rotating mop disc pads used by the D20 UltraD20 Ultra, D30 UltraD30 Ultra, RLD31SERLD31SE, and RTD31TERTD31TE are cleaned automatically by the dock wash cycle after each run. Despite the automation, inspect the discs weekly for residual soiling the wash cycle did not remove, particularly in homes where grease or fine grit is regularly tracked onto hard floors. Replace disc pads every two to three months under daily use, or when the microfibre surface shows visible matting that washing no longer lifts. The D30 Ultra CE uses the same oscillating disc mechanism and the same two-to-three-month replacement guidance. No D-series model currently has the mop pad or mop disc listed as an individual item, so every named model in this paragraph links through to its maintenance set instead, where the pads are included as one of the covered components.

Side brush

All D-series models carry a side brush that sweeps debris from skirting boards into the main brush path. Inspect the brush post weekly and remove any hair or thread wrapped at the base before it reaches the mounting shaft. On the D20 PlusD20 Plus, RLD35GDRLD35GD, D20 UltraD20 Ultra, D30 UltraD30 Ultra, D30 Ultra CED30 Ultra CE, RLD31SERLD31SE, and RTD31TERTD31TE, the side brush is a standard fixed single arm; replace every four to six months. On the D20 Pro PlusD20 Pro Plus and RLD43SDRLD43SD, the side brush arm extends outward to improve corner and skirting coverage. The extension rail on the underside of the robot needs a monthly wipe to prevent grit from binding the arm partway through its travel. Replace the extending arm assembly every four to six months, or sooner if the bristles show visible splay that does not recover after washing.

Dock dust bag

The sealed auto-empty dust bag is the primary dust containment component for the dock on all D-series models: the D20 PlusD20 Plus, D20 Pro PlusD20 Pro Plus, RLD35GDRLD35GD, and RLD43SDRLD43SD share one bag format, while the D20 UltraD20 Ultra, D30 UltraD30 Ultra, D30 Ultra CED30 Ultra CE, RLD31SERLD31SE, and RTD31TERTD31TE share a second format, and each of these nine models has the dust bag available as an individual item. The 5 litre bag is rated at up to 150 days under ideal conditions, but households with shedding pets or regular carpet vacuuming should plan for replacement every six to eight weeks. Replace when the dock indicator light prompts, or earlier if the auto-empty cycle noticeably lengthens, which is the first audible sign that airflow through the transfer channel is restricted. A near-full bag causes the auto-empty cycle to stall mid-transfer, leaving the robot’s internal 500 ml dustbin partially full at the start of the next session. The two bag formats used across the D-series share the same replacement principle, though the bag designs are not interchangeable between the mid-tier and premium platform generations.

Dock wash system

This section applies only to the D20 UltraD20 Ultra, D30 UltraD30 Ultra, D30 Ultra CED30 Ultra CE, RLD31SERLD31SE, and RTD31TERTD31TE. Empty and rinse the dirty water tray after every one to two runs; standing dirty water in a warm room develops bacterial growth within two to three days, and the resulting contamination transfers back onto the mop discs during the next wash cycle. Refill the clean water tank before it empties to prevent the wash cycle from running dry, which increases friction between the disc pad and the dock brush. Wipe the dock rinse brushes monthly with a damp cloth to remove embedded lint and dirt. In hard water areas, descale the rinse nozzles every one to two months using a diluted citric acid solution to prevent mineral deposits from reducing water flow during the wash cycle. The D30 UltraD30 Ultra, D30 Ultra CED30 Ultra CE, and RTD31TERTD31TE have an additional hot-air drying stage; inspect the dock air vent monthly for lint build-up that would restrict drying airflow and leave residual moisture on the disc pads.

Battery

The lithium-ion battery in all D-series models is designed for daily residential use, with a practical service life of two to three years under normal charging habits. Charge the robot fully before its first use, and avoid leaving it off the dock for extended periods, as deep-discharging the battery accelerates cell degradation. The charging contacts on the underside of the robot and the corresponding contacts on the dock base should be wiped monthly with a dry cloth; oxidised contacts cause incomplete or intermittent charging that can be mistaken for battery capacity loss. The clearest signal that the battery needs replacing is a session runtime that has declined to less than half the original rated duration despite a full charge, combined with the robot returning to dock more frequently than usual on maps it previously completed without interruption. A battery that will not hold a charge through a single short session on a clean, fully charged dock should be replaced promptly to avoid stressing the charging circuit.

Sensors and docking contacts

Wipe the top-mounted LDS lidar turret, the forward cliff sensors on the underside, and the charging contacts on both the robot and dock weekly with a dry microfibre cloth. The LDS turret accumulates dust along the rotating collar, and any build-up interferes with laser return accuracy, producing erratic navigation and duplicate room segments during mapping. On the Ultra-platform models, fine spray from the dock wash nozzles can deposit residue on the charging contacts and docking alignment sensors across multiple wash cycles; a monthly targeted wipe of the docking bay area with a slightly damp cloth, followed by a dry wipe, prevents contact corrosion that degrades reliable auto-return-to-dock performance over time.

Common problems and their maintenance causes

Auto-empty cycle stalls or takes noticeably longer than usual

Across all D-series models, the most frequent cause of a slow or incomplete auto-empty cycle is a dust bag approaching or at capacity. The airflow through the transfer channel drops below the threshold needed to move material from the robot’s internal bin into the bag, and the cycle stalls mid-transfer. Replace the bag first. If a fresh bag does not resolve the issue, inspect the docking port on the underside of the robot and the matching port on the dock base; caked dust on either sealing surface breaks the airtight seal needed for effective transfer. Wipe both surfaces with a dry cloth and retry. On the D20 UltraD20 Ultra, D30 UltraD30 Ultra, D30 Ultra CED30 Ultra CE, RLD31SERLD31SE, and RTD31TERTD31TE, residue from the mop wash cycle can migrate to the dustbin transfer channel over many sessions; a monthly deep-clean of the dock station prevents this compounding.

Mopping leaves streaks or redistributes visible soiling on hard floors

On the flat-mop platform, a streaking pad is almost always one that has exceeded its effective service life or was reinstalled damp with residual soiling from a previous session. Wash the pad and allow it to dry completely, at least two hours in a dry room, before the next run. If streaking persists with a fresh pad, reduce the moisture level setting on the D20 PlusD20 Plus or D20 Pro PlusD20 Pro Plus toward the lower half of the 32-level range. Excess moisture pools in tile grout lines and leaves wet streaks that dry into a visible film rather than a clean surface. Also confirm that the water tank O-ring is seated correctly, as a displaced O-ring allows inconsistent water release that creates uneven damp patches across the mopping path.

Rotating mop discs remain damp or produce odour after the dock wash cycle

On the D20 UltraD20 Ultra and RLD31SERLD31SE, which rely on air-drying between sessions rather than a heated drying stage, a poorly ventilated dock location (inside a cupboard or tight in a corner) extends drying time and allows residual moisture to develop a mild mildew odour within 24 hours. Move the dock to a better-ventilated position. On the D30 UltraD30 Ultra, D30 Ultra CE, and RTD31TERTD31TE, persistent damp after the hot-air drying cycle almost always indicates a partially blocked dock air vent. Clear the vent with a soft brush and run a wash-and-dry cycle to confirm the problem is resolved.

Suction noticeably weaker during the second half of a cleaning session

A loaded HEPA filter is the primary cause on the D20 PlusD20 Plus, D20 Pro PlusD20 Pro Plus, RLD35GDRLD35GD, and RLD43SDRLD43SD. The motor holds rated suction for the first twenty to thirty minutes of a session, then output drops as the filter reaches saturation and airflow restricts. Remove the filter and check its colour; mid-grey or darker means immediate replacement. If the filter looks clean, check the suction inlet inside the dustbin for a blockage and confirm the DuoBrush divider channel is fully clear. A combined filter replacement and brush service restores full suction in the large majority of cases. On the D20 UltraD20 Ultra, D30 UltraD30 Ultra, RLD31SERLD31SE, and RTD31TERTD31TE, the same filter check applies; also verify the dock auto-empty cycle completed fully at the end of the previous session, as a partially filled dustbin going into the next run loads the filter much faster. The D30 Ultra CE follows the same suction platform and filter check, though its filter is not yet listed as an individual item or included in a maintenance set of its own.

DuoBrush produces a grinding noise or brush stall error

A brush stall error on the D20 PlusD20 Plus, D20 Pro PlusD20 Pro Plus, RLD35GDRLD35GD, or RLD43SDRLD43SD is almost always caused by compressed fibre in the DuoBrush divider channel, not a bearing or motor failure. Remove both rollers, lift the divider cover, and clear the channel fully with a toothpick or thin cleaning brush. A roller that does not spin freely by hand after this service has hair wrapped inside the end cap bearing housing; extract it with a toothpick before reinstalling. If the brush stalls again within a week of a thorough clean, the household shed rate is exceeding the fortnightly service cycle and the interval should be shortened to weekly.

Robot makes erratic navigation decisions or revisits completed zones

Dust accumulation on the LDS lidar turret collar produces scattered laser returns that the navigation algorithm cannot resolve cleanly, resulting in erratic turns, repeated circuits of already-cleaned areas, and occasionally a failed map save. Wipe the turret gently with a dry microfibre cloth (not a solvent or damp cloth) and confirm the rotating collar spins freely with a light fingertip touch. On the Ultra-platform models, dock wash spray residue can settle on forward-facing obstacle sensors and camera modules over multiple sessions; include these in the weekly sensor wipe. If erratic mapping persists after a thorough sensor clean on any D-series model, a factory map reset from the Dreamehome app clears accumulated mapping errors and forces a fresh mapping run.

Extending side brush on D20 Pro Plus or RLD43SD does not reach walls

The extension rail on the underside of the D20 Pro PlusD20 Pro Plus and RLD43SDRLD43SD collects grit and fine hair that binds the arm partway through its extension. Even a partial grit deposit is enough to prevent full travel, leaving a visible unswept strip alongside skirting boards that owners frequently attribute to a mapping fault. Wipe the rail with a dry cloth and confirm the arm moves through its full range by hand with the robot powered off. If the arm still binds after cleaning, inspect the pivot joint with a torch for a hair wrap and remove it with a toothpick. An arm that consistently fails to reach full extension after cleaning has likely developed track wear and the assembly should be replaced.

What consistent maintenance protects over time

On a multi-function robot that combines high-suction vacuuming, active or passive mopping, and automated dock operations, every consumable interacts with the performance of the next. On the mid-tier platform, a HEPA filter past its replacement interval forces the motor to draw more current to maintain suction, which further loads the motor windings and accelerates the loading cycle for the replacement filter that follows. A near-full dock bag prevents auto-empty from completing, leaving the dustbin partially filled at the start of each session and overloading the filter faster. On the Ultra-platform models, a dirty water tray recontaminates the mop discs during the dock wash, meaning the first few minutes of every mopping run distribute soiling rather than lifting it. The cascade in each case is predictable and preventable. Adhering to the intervals described in this guide across the complete consumable set, not just the most accessible components, keeps each subsystem within its design envelope and extends the robot’s practical working life well beyond the three to four year expectation for a platform at this tier.

How the D-series models differ

The D-series divides into two maintenance groups with different part numbers, different dock functions, and entirely different mop pad systems. Understanding which group a given model belongs to eliminates all ambiguity around consumable selection and service scheduling.

The D20 PlusD20 Plus is the baseline mid-tier model: 13,000 Pa suction, HyperStream DuoBrush, flat drag mop pad with a 350 ml water tank at 32 selectable moisture levels, and a sealed 5 litre auto-empty dock. There is no carpet detection, no extending side brush, and no dock wash function. The maintenance routine is therefore the most straightforward in the series: wash the pad after every session, clean the DuoBrush divider channel fortnightly, tap the filter weekly, and replace each consumable on the intervals specified in this guide. The D20 UltraD20 Ultra moves to the premium rotating-mop platform. It uses a floating rubber roller main brush in place of the DuoBrush and twin rotating mop discs that oscillate against hard floors and lift clear of carpet automatically. The auto-wash dock cleans the mop discs after each run using a water rinse cycle, which largely removes the daily hand-wash obligation. The D30 UltraD30 Ultra shares the D20 Ultra platform and adds a hot-air drying stage to the dock wash cycle, which eliminates residual moisture on the discs after each wash and significantly reduces odour risk from damp pads stored between sessions. The dock air vent therefore needs a monthly lint inspection that the D20 Ultra dock does not require. The RLD31SERLD31SE is the regional SKU variant of the D20 Ultra and follows its full maintenance schedule, including the same dock tank emptying cadence, dock rinse brush monthly wipe, and two-to-three-month mop disc replacement interval. The RTD31TERTD31TE corresponds to the D30 Ultra: hot-air drying dock, monthly dock air vent lint check, and the same consumable intervals as the D30 Ultra across all components. The D30 Ultra CED30 Ultra CE shares the D30 Ultra’s 25,000 Pa suction, floating rubber roller brush, DuoScrub-style oscillating mop discs, and hot-air drying dock, so the same maintenance routine applies in full. Its main brush and dock dust bag are both listed as individual items, but this CE variant does not yet have its own filter listing or a full maintenance set of its own; until a dedicated listing is added, follow the D30 Ultra intervals above and use the individual brush and dust bag links for this specific model.
