Why Deebot Slim and U3 robots need more frequent maintenance
A direct-inlet suction mouth replaces the main brush roll entirely
The DK3G platform that underpins every Slim and U3 model does not use a rotating main brush roll. The 57-millimetre chassis height is below what a conventional roller assembly requires, so Ecovacs routes airflow directly from a wide inlet slot at the robot’s underside into the dustbin. The practical result is that the two side brushes carry the full agitation load: they are the only mechanical agitators on the robot, sweeping debris inward to where the suction mouth can lift it. Because the debris path on the DK3G chassis is shorter than on a taller robot, most of what enters the inlet slot reaches the filter stack with very little pre-separation. The stack uses a two-layer arrangement: a coarse sponge pre-filter captures the largest particles and protects the pleated HEPA medium behind it. Both layers load faster than they would on a machine with a cyclonic separation stage. HEPA filter with sponge pre-filter
The two-part filter stack in the onboard dustbin captures everything the direct-inlet mouth draws up. Knock the sponge pre-filter against the inside of a waste bin every one to two weeks to clear coarse dust, and wash it under cool running water whenever it feels clogged. After washing, air-dry for at least twenty-four hours before reinstalling; a damp sponge placed back into the airflow path invites mould along the dustbin walls within a few days. The pleated HEPA medium behind the sponge must not be washed under any circumstances; washing degrades the pleat structure even when the filter looks undamaged afterward. Every three months, and in hard-water regions every six to eight weeks, drain the tank, refill with an equal-parts solution of white vinegar and cool water, fit the unit to the robot, and let the electronic pump run on the highest wetness setting until the tank empties. Dustbin and inlet channel
Empty the 300-millilitre onboard dustbin manually whenever it is full, since this platform has no auto-empty dock to fall back on; household debris load determines how often that point is reached, and homes with pets or long-haired occupants will typically need to empty it more frequently. Wipe the interior of the bin with a dry cloth to clear the fine dust film that settles on the inside walls; that film migrates into the filter stack and shortens filter life if left. Check the inlet channel between the suction mouth and the dustbin for compacted hair. A small wad of compacted material in the inlet presents itself as a sudden drop in pickup on carpet that looks identical to a blocked filter; removing the dustbin entirely and shining a torch into the suction mouth is the fastest way to distinguish inlet blockage from filter saturation.

One of the two side brushes has bent, worn short, or lost bristles. Compacted hair or debris is sitting in the inlet channel between the suction mouth and the dustbin, or the sponge pre-filter has saturated. Third, the cloth is incorrectly seated and is not lying flat against the floor; remove the mop plate, check that the Velcro face is clean of lint, reseat the cloth, and refit the plate. Musty smell from the robot after storage
A damp mop cloth was left fitted to the robot overnight or longer. Remove the cloth immediately after any mop run, rinse, and hang to air-dry before storing either the robot or the cloth. On a platform now several years into its product cycle, some run-time decline reflects genuine battery ageing. Rule out the maintenance causes first. Onboard dustbin fills within a single cleaning run
Either the household debris load genuinely exceeds the 300-millilitre capacity, common in pet households and on large floor areas, or fine dust has accumulated on the inside walls of the bin and reduced effective volume. Wipe the bin interior with a dry cloth to restore capacity. If the bin continues to fill mid-run after cleaning the interior, the practical answer on this platform is to empty more frequently; the Slim and U3 family predates auto-empty docks and the bin capacity is fixed by the chassis design.
