XU7000 generation: the maintenance baseline

The Philips HomeRun 7000 Series Aqua XU7000/01 and Philips HomeRun 7000 Series Aqua XU7000/02 differ from each other only in colour finish: the XU7000/01 is the darker variant and the XU7000/02 the lighter. For maintenance purposes the two are interchangeable in every regard. Both rely on the rotating LiDAR turret plus conventional bumper and cliff sensors for navigation; no ToF sensors are fitted, so the sensor-wipe cadence is a monthly clean of the bumper panel and a weekly clean of the six cliff sensors. All other intervals covering the brush, filter, mop pad, bag, and dock port are the same as on the newer XU7100 generation.

XU7100 generation: additional sensor care

The Philips HomeRun 7000 Series Aqua XU7100/01 and Philips HomeRun 7000 Series Aqua XU7100/02 add a front 3D ToF sensor and eight bumper ToF sensors for fine-grained small-obstacle detection, down to objects roughly two by two centimetres. This capability requires one additional weekly maintenance step: wipe the entire front bumper sensor strip with a dry microfibre cloth. Dust on any of the eight small sensor windows causes the robot to stop in the middle of empty floor, interpreting the dirty sensor as a small obstacle. Side brush

One side brush is mounted on the right underside of the robot. Inspect the central post weekly for wrapped hair and fibre, and clear with fine scissors or a toothpick. Replace every six to twelve months. A bent or asymmetrically set side brush produces inconsistent edge reach and leaves dust stripes along skirting boards. Replace immediately rather than attempting to bend it back into shape: the polymer takes a permanent set once deformed past approximately twenty degrees, and any attempt to straighten it risks cracking the central post.

Washable microfibre mop pads

The robot ships with two washable mop pads so that one can be in use while the other dries. After each cleaning session, rinse the pad under running water until the runoff is clear, then air-dry. Machine-washing is acceptable up to sixty degrees Celsius, but always without fabric softener: softener coats the fibre and permanently reduces absorbency. Replace every three to six months. At 430 vibrations per minute the pad face accumulates friction cycles faster than a static mop, and a stiff or matted pad no longer spreads water evenly from the electric tank. Anti-allergy dust bag

The 3.0 litre auto-empty bag captures material transferred from the robot’s 260 ml onboard bin after every run. Philips rates the bag for up to thirty days of typical use, though the real-world window depends on shed rate, pet count, and how cleanly the dock-to-robot transfer is sealing. Replace the bag when the app’s maintenance dashboard flags it or when the thirty-day window expires, whichever comes first. Do not attempt to empty and reuse the anti-allergy bag: the seal is a single-use tab that, once opened, no longer reliably contains fine dust during handling.

Dock transfer port and robot docking contacts

Wipe the Dual Wave transfer port on the dock and the matching port on the robot’s underside once a month with a dry microfibre cloth. Any build-up of fine dust around the rubber seal reduces the airflow differential that the Dual Wave technology depends on, and a weak seal means partial empties that leave the robot with a half-full bin on the next run. The four charging contacts on the dock and the matching pads under the robot also benefit from a monthly dry wipe: a thin oxide or dust film on these contacts slows the charging cycle enough to register as a noticeably longer dock-to-ready time.

LiDAR turret, cliff sensors, and ToF strip

Wipe the rotating LiDAR turret window on the top plate every two to four weeks with a dry cloth, no solvents. The six downward-facing cliff sensors on the underside of the robot want a weekly wipe: they sit close to the floor where airborne dust settles quickly, and a film on any sensor window can cause false drop detections that stop the robot at a threshold it should cross normally. On the Philips HomeRun 7000 Series Aqua XU7100/01 and Philips HomeRun 7000 Series Aqua XU7100/02, also add a weekly wipe of the front bumper ToF strip. The eight small sensor windows are what lets the robot detect obstacles as small as two by two centimetres, and a thin dust film on any one of them produces the symptom of the robot stopping in the middle of an empty floor as if a non-existent object were blocking its path.

Battery

The HomeRun 7000 Aqua uses a fixed internal lithium-ion battery that is not user-replaceable in the conventional sense. Philips does not publish a fixed battery replacement interval, but observable capacity decline is normal after twelve to twenty-four months of daily charging cycles. The signal to watch for is a meaningful reduction in runtime per charge: a robot that previously cleaned a full medium-sized flat in one cycle but now needs to return to the dock partway through has a battery approaching the end of its useful life. Keeping the robot’s four charging contacts clean and avoiding extended storage in a fully discharged state gives the battery its best realistic service life. When runtime loss becomes disruptive to cleaning coverage, battery replacement is a qualified-service operation best arranged through Philips authorised service.

Common problems and their maintenance causes

Auto-empty bag-full alert arriving well before the thirty-day mark

The Dual Wave transfer port is leaking air. Wipe the rubber port seal on the dock and the matching port on the underside of the robot with a dry cloth; fine dust builds a thin film around the seal over weeks of docking cycles and weakens the airflow the technology relies on. If the alert continues to arrive early after a clean, check that the 3 litre anti-allergy bag is fully seated: the bag has a paper collar that must sit flush against the dock port before the lid closes. A mis-seated collar creates a direct bypass that the suction cannot overcome regardless of how clean the seal is.

Mop leaving streaks or damp patches on hard floors

Three causes to check in order. First, the pad itself has matted or lost absorbency and is spreading residue rather than lifting it: replace with a new pad. Second, the electric water tank is set to a higher wetness level than the floor surface tolerates: drop from High to Medium in the app and retest. Third, the mop-plate attachment points have fibre caught behind them, preventing the pad from sitting flush against the floor: remove the plate, clear any threads from the mount, and reseat. Robot stopping mid-floor as if blocked by an invisible object

Wipe the entire ToF strip across the front bumper with a dry microfibre cloth. Do not use damp cloths on the sensor array: residual moisture inside the bumper housing can short the sensor cable. If the issue persists after cleaning the bumper strip, the 3D ToF sensor at the top-front of the bumper has the same problem; wipe it on the same pass. Loud whining noise from the brush chamber

Hair has compacted into one or both end-cap bearings of the multi-surface brush, and the brush motor is drawing extra current to turn the roll against the resistance. Remove the brush completely, clear material from both bearings with a toothpick, and check that the rubber ribs and bristle rows are not deformed. The roll should spin freely by hand with no audible grinding. If the noise returns within a few days of cleaning, the bearings have worn past their service life and the brush needs full replacement rather than another clean.

Dust-bin-full alert within a single cleaning run

Fine dust is clogging the narrow inlet channel between the main brush chamber and the 260 ml onboard bin, which the bin-full sensor reads as a capacity event. Open the bin, remove any visible clog at the inlet, and tap the filter firmly over a waste bin. If the alert persists after clearing the inlet, the filter is saturated enough to restrict airflow and trigger a false full-bin reading: replace the filter rather than washing and continuing to use it.

Mop pad smells faintly stale after the first run of the day

The pad was reinstalled before it finished drying from the previous clean. The HomeRun 7000 Aqua does not dock-dry the mop pad, so the user is responsible for air-drying between runs. Rinse, wring, and air-dry in a well-ventilated spot for at least six hours before reinstalling. A persistent smell after proper drying time suggests the pad has reached the end of its absorbent service life and needs replacement; continued use of an exhausted pad deposits a biofilm that no rinsing routine will clear.

LiDAR mapping halts mid-run or produces a jagged floor plan

The rotating turret window has dust on it and is producing inconsistent distance readings, causing the LiDAR to fail its own confidence threshold and pause mapping. Wipe the turret window with a dry microfibre cloth, rotating the top plate gently by hand to access the full rim. Do not use solvents: acetone or alcohol can damage the clear acrylic cover over the laser aperture. If the jagged map persists after a thorough clean, check that the turret spins freely by hand when the robot is powered off. A seized bearing in the turret assembly cannot be fixed by cleaning and requires a service call to Philips.
