Motorised floor tool brush bar

Fluffy cleaner head brush bars
The Fluffy cleaner head contains two washable brush bars: a main bar of soft woven nylon combined with anti-static carbon fibre filaments, and a smaller secondary bar. Both are washable with cold water only; do not use detergents of any kind. To remove them, turn the cleaner head upside down and use a coin to turn the end cap lock 180 degrees anticlockwise until it clicks into the unlocked position. Push the end cap to the open position, slide out the main brush bar, and lift out the smaller bar. Wash both under running cold water, rubbing gently to remove lint, fine dust, and debris. Stand both bars upright and leave them to dry completely for at least 24 hours before reinstalling. Battery
The Dyson Cyclone V10 is powered by a 25.2V lithium-ion battery pack clipped to the rear of the body. Under typical household use of three to five cleaning sessions per week, the battery will sustain its original runtime for approximately 300 to 500 charge cycles, representing three to five years of service. The clearest signal that replacement is needed is a run time that has shortened significantly even after the filter has been freshly washed and dried, the bin is empty, and the machine is used for everyday cleaning. If the machine now cleans for noticeably less than half its original duration and no blockages are present, the battery cells have lost capacity and replacement is the correct next step rather than further maintenance. Bin
Empty the bin when dirt reaches the MAX line marked on the shroud. Using the machine when the bin is overfilled restricts airflow through the cyclone assembly, forces coarser debris into the filter rather than into the bin, and increases the frequency at which the filter needs washing. The bin is not dishwasher safe. If cleaning is required, wipe the interior with a damp, lint-free cloth and ensure the bin and its seals are completely dry before refitting. Dyson advises against detergents, polishes, or air fresheners inside the bin.

Common problems and their maintenance causes
Suction noticeably weaker than usual
The most common cause is a saturated filter. At 150 AW maximum suction, the V10 pulls fine particulate through the filter rapidly, and a filter washed less than monthly will show measurable suction loss in a household using the machine regularly. Before assuming a mechanical fault, remove the filter, wash it thoroughly until the water runs clear, and leave it to dry fully for 24 hours. Also check the bin: if dirt is at or above the MAX line, empty it and wipe the shroud area with a damp, lint-free cloth, without using detergents, polishes, or air fresheners.
Machine pulses six times and cuts out during use
Dyson’s user manual states that when the motor detects a blockage, it pulses six times and will not restart until the obstruction is cleared. The most likely locations for a blockage are the cleaner head entry, the wand tube, and the bin inlet. Disconnect the machine from the charger, remove the wand, and check each section in turn. Hair packs at the junction between the cleaner head and the wand are a common cause on machines used primarily on carpet. A filter that has not been washed for two or more months can also trigger pulsing behaviour: the restriction becomes severe enough that the motor protection circuit activates as though a physical blockage were present.
Filter LED remains on after washing the filter
Two distinct scenarios produce a lit or flashing filter indicator. A solid filter LED means the filter needs washing. A flashing filter LED means the filter is not correctly seated in its housing. After washing and drying, the filter must be placed in the open position and twisted clockwise until it clicks into the locked position. If the LED continues to flash after refitting, remove the filter and refit it from the open position. If a clean, thoroughly dry, correctly seated filter does not extinguish the indicator, the filter has likely reached the end of its service life and replacement with a new 969082-01 is the correct next step.
Brush bar jam causing loss of carpet cleaning performance
Hair wrap at the end caps of the motorised floor tool is the most frequent cause of carpet performance loss. As hair accumulates around the bearing at each end of the brush bar, the bar slows, the motor compensates by drawing more current, and the battery depletes faster per clean. Remove the end cap with a coin, slide the bar free, and pull out any accumulated hair and thread from both ends of the bar and from inside the head cavity. After clearing, check that the end cap clicks back into the locked position correctly; a loose cap will allow further debris to pack in more rapidly. Run time reduction has two distinct causes: a dirty filter and a degraded battery. A clogged filter forces the motor to draw higher current to maintain airflow, consuming battery charge faster than the machine was designed to do in normal use. If run time remains short after a clean, fully dried filter has been fitted and the machine has completed a full charge cycle, battery capacity degradation is the likely cause. Fluffy head leaving streaks or debris trails on hard floors
The Fluffy cleaner head on models such as the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute and Dyson V10 Absolute deposits debris trails when the soft nylon fibres are heavily loaded with fine dust, or when the brush bars are reinstalled before they have fully dried. If the fibres are visibly compacted with lint, remove and wash both brush bars as described in the Fluffy brush bar section above and allow the full 24-hour drying period. Battery not charging or machine not operating in cold conditions
Dyson’s user manual states that the V10 will not operate or charge if the ambient temperature falls below 5 degrees Celsius. This is by design and protects both the motor and the battery chemistry. If the machine fails to start or the charger indicator behaves unexpectedly in a cold garage, utility room, or during winter storage, bring the machine to a room-temperature environment for 30 minutes before attempting to charge or use it again. What consistent maintenance protects over time
In the V10, each component in the airflow path directly affects the next.
